I am a huge Broadway musical fan.  So I was very excited about Sweeny Todd being made into a movie as it is one of my favorites.  We saw the movie on Christmas day and it was brilliant.

I adored every minute of it. If that can be said about a show where everyone dies.   Tim Burton is a genius and Johnny Depp the perfect Sweeny! The "By the Sea" number is hilarious in a way that was never possible on stage.  Johnny Depp has a surprisingly strong voice.

I have seen a stage version that was just awful and I have a DVD copy of the original stage production with Angela Lansbury.  Neither of which captured the true mood of despair and desperation that this movies does.  Really, the movie was fantastic

You don't need to be a fan of musicals to enjoy. I will say that it is bloody but in an over the top theatrical way that is appropriate.

Oh, I loved, loved, loved that movie. I so want to see it again. You're right...everything was just perfect. Even my hubby, who hates musicals, loved it.

I've seen the original musical, but I did see the movie, just yesterday. It was great. I love Burton's work and the way he makes the world all dark.

A couple of the bits that I really remembered: one moments when the blood splattered on the camera. I liked that, it added a more depth to it, like, "if you were really there you'd have blood all over you". And the composition of that last shot was amazing. I loved the juxtaposition of the romantic pose, his wife in his arms, with the dark hellish surroundings and their slit throats. Now that's a Valentine's Day card for the goths!

Hey Happy Holidays to you!

I know that end shot was perfect. Which version of the stage play did you see? I saw this bizzaro one where the actors played instruments. I wasn't a fan of that reimagining of the musical.

I want to see it again too. Definitly goes on my must have DVD list.

I know a group of teenage boys (friends' kids) who went to see it for the blood and ended up really enjoying it. I'd say that makes it a good choice for everyone

I can't wait to see it!! *flails* I've only listened to my soundtrack (my opinion's in my last post, and I will admit that I'm bit of a music *cough*snob*cough*), and it shows promise. I have a feeling that it'll make me squeal like the closeted fangirl that I am.

I was only disappointed by the fact that they did not use the big opening choral number but that theme was there throughout. I don't think you'll be dissapointed

The music is fantastic but definitely not a kid friendly version.

Well I haven't seen a stage version of Sweeny Todd yet that was as good as the movie and that is usually not the case when Broadway goes Hollywood
