Firefly question and more

Hey out there to any Firefly fans. Did Mal ever mention any family during the series? Also, does he have a middle name? Working on a Firefly fic and don't want to contradict canon.


Also, the next Immortal!Dean story (an epilogue for Not Looking for Trouble) is posted over at hl_flashfic because it fits the challenge prompt there. And because I want to pimp the challenge community I run with idontlikegravy. If you have ever thought of writing any Highlander fic come join us!. I Will post the story here when that Challenge ends.

Mal was brought up on a ranch on the planet Shadow. Raised by his mother and "about 40 hands", Mal apparently received a fairly decent education whilst growing up. Though Mal usually seems more practical than intellectual, he occasionally surprises his friends by displaying familiarity in a wide range of literature varying from the works of Shan Yu (a fictional psychotic dictator) to poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (he has, however, no idea "who" Mona Lisa is). The Firefly RPG suggests that the planet Shadow was bombarded by the Alliance, thus rending it inhabitable, providing a proper Motivation for Mal to join the Browncoats.

I don't know if I'd trust the wiki about that Xian Yu thing, because Book and Sherpherd talk about that. But Mal is most talkative about his family in "Our Mrs. Reynolds", when he relays thew information above about Shadow and the ranch and the ranchhands. And I'd trust the RPG as a reference, but not so much as canon unless Joss says so.
