strangevisitor7: I will call Her george (Winchester - Dean say Idiot)

I want the supernatural comic to be good. I really want to like it as it is great promotion for the show but after 3 issues I have spotted so many inconsistencies I have to wonder if the writer even watches the show. Below I've listed the ones I noticed and why I think the comic is wrong.

1) Ellen calls her daughter Josephine. But in No Exit we learn it's Joanna Beth. This one pisses me off the most

2) Th boys go to Harvell's. Even Ellen says she's never met the boys in ELAC and the boys have never heard of Ellen. I doubt Dean would forget especially since watches his dad kill a man right in front of the roadhouse

3) They get the Impala from a relative in issue #2. But John and the boys are sitting on the car in the pilot.

4) This is a small nitpick. (cause I am on a roll) John seems to leave the boys with friends and relatives all over the place in the comic. (I accept this in fan fiction but not in the comic) I always got the impression it was Pastor Jim or on the road.

5) John learns a Demon killed his wife in issue #3. Yet in the middle of season one he confirms to Dean that he's finally sure it was a Demon. Did he just never bother to tell Dean for 23 years?

6) And finally in issue 1 we learn that Dean and John have been lying to Sam about how his mom died. Sorry, don't believe it, John was all about the truth of what was out there. We know in the pilot John gave Sam a gun at 9 and told him to shoot the thing in the closet. So for John to do that, Sam must have held a gun & known about the supernatural before then.

And don't even get me started on the idea that Dean would leave Sam as proposed in issue #3. I know he doesn't but I firmly believe Dean would never even contemplate it. Still, I didn't put this on the list because this is my belief and not necessarily a conflict with canon

Like I said a lot of small things but the Jo one really bugs me because that is a friggn' character's name!

I'd love to know what ya'll think of the comic and if you've found other inconsistencies.

Followed a link from the [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter. I have been trying so hard to love the comic, I really have, but each new issue is that much worse. I wish somebody, I don't even care if it is Krpike, but somebody would just run through and do some fact checking on it before sending it off to print. I don't know who in their right mind would think that the people buying these comics wouldn't be notice all of these glaring inconsistencies. I keep telling myself that it is new, things will get better, but it just isn't happening.

I am shocked that some of these thing went to print. I was disappointed with their choice of artist but i wouldn't care if it was good.

according to peter johnson, kripke does read the comic scripts (http://blogs.mediavillage.com/sci_fi/archives/2007/06/supernatural_co.html). but i find it hard to believe that he doesn't remember his own canon.

Kripke can not be reading them or maybe he is just looking at the pictures.
Seriously maybe he is just approving story lines or maybe just reading outlines. I can't believe he would let the Josephine/Joanna thing slip. It be would like Joss Whedon letting them call Dawn Donna.

yeah, he's clearly not reading all the details. maybe he is just reading plot outlines or something, and not the actual finished (or even mostly finished) scripts.

I do! Infact stole one the banners and I rotate it on my desk top. The one with like 10 Dean's. I just love the parallel expressions on that icon perfect!

I remember reading that interview, but... but I think it is easier for me to pretend Kripke isn't reading them than for me to believe that he is, and he doesn't mind the way they are turning out. Denial is a beautiful thing. :-)

I noticed those too! I was really disappointed in all the inconsistencies.

Another one I found was that in #3, when John was beginning to go on hunts and was bringing Sam and Dean where he went, it says it takes place in 1982, but Mary didn't die until November of 1983.

One more I'm not totally sure about was that Ellen tells Dean she has a little girl his age. I think it's on the official site where you can read Jo's journal, and it says she's 21. If it was 1982 when Ellen met Dean and told him that, and Dean was born in 1979, Dean would've only been 3 (if it was 1983 like in the actual show he would've been 4), which means Jo wouldn't have even been born yet.

Honestly, they at least need to have Kripke or one of the writers of the SHOW check the issues over before they go on sale.

Good catch on those dates. I never was sure how old Jo was supposed to be so I let that slide. I wonder if their fact checker is using original sides instead of what actually made it into the show.

You all have just validated what I have been ranting about since the first issue came out!!! And to make matters worse, they dont even have an address at the back where to send hate mail tool!!! I tried google, but NADA...
The art sucks, Dean would NEVER leave sammy behind, impala? The whole thing sucks ass and Im a hard core fan--what a jip!@ :-(
Who could possibly be monitoring this? Nobody tied to the show! Really cheap overall...

I am sorry that i am not alone in this only because I don't want to be right about the comic being so wrong.

I found an address for Wildstorm in the small print
Wildstorm productions
888prospect st #240
La Jolla CA 92037

For those that don't know Wildstorm is a DC logo

Can we start a campaign. To get these things corrected. How could that happen

According to the interview that I read, they are aware that the comic isnt going over very well with the fans, but are sorta indifferent to it...
I say we inundate them with mail, and really have our concerns be heard. At least get them to fire the artist, man he sucks hardcore!!!!!!

i did kind of like that john was introduced to harvelle's, but i was completely thrown that ellen met the boys. even if john never took them there again, ellen would remember having met them when they were wee. and there's no fucking way jo is dean's age. and did harvelle's seem weirdly homey, or was that just me? (altho i guess it could've changed a lot in twenty-two years....)

i let the 1982 thing slide as a typo, but i can't imagine there was ever a time in dean's life when he even THOUGHT that leaving sam would be a good idea. especially not when he was twelve and john was still going off and leaving them alone while he hunted.

i really really want to like this. i think i can get used to the art, maybe, but too much of the story just doesn't track with canon.

I could have gotten past the art if the story was compelling. Why couldn't they have recruited on of the great fiction writers in our fandom. We obviously have more respect for the source material then DC/Wilstorm

Hi, the link from [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter led me here. That's what I had posted in my LJ:

Just read Origins #2. Shouldn't have done that. I want my canon back! Seriously, WTF?!
Okay, That there was an uncle Jacob was interesting...could be the guy who had Mary's gravestone put up.
But: No way the Impala belonged to Jacob! I want my canon back! Also WTF: Really awesome idea to put a dead guy in your car and send it down a cliff, really! Won't look suspicious if it's found, noooo. Sure, that thing what they were trying to tell us was John's car was teh ugly and you just don't kill a pretty Impala dead. But: Canon says by the time of the pilot the Impala was a Winchester. So stfu, comic!
Oh and about the pics: Dude, you fugly!

Origins #3
I have no idea why I read this. Maybe I just like ranting too much (also the reason why I watch the Harry Potter movies).
What the hell? Is the timeline seriously fucked up or what? It's 1982 and John with Dean & Baby Sammy is looking for Mary's killer? I don't think so. And then they meet Ellen who has a daughter named Josephine who's about Dean's age? Did Jo have an older sister or what?
And the pics are still mighty ugly.

Welcome to my rant. It seems to be taking on a life of its own. Josephine being an older sister was suggested to me elsewhere. But that is just someone making excuses for bad fact checking.

I almost want to read #4 just to see what else they can screw up because this is more seriously fucked up than any intential fan fic AU I have ever read!

Relative to your other comment if the comic were presented as an AU then alot of this goes away. Glad I saved you a couple of bucks :)
