Summary: The Crossroads Demon gets her soul. Spoiler AHBL2.(sorta) A crossover which I identify at the end so as not to ruin the surprise.

A/N: I don’t now if this particular crossover solution to AHBL2 has been suggested by anyone else but here is my take on it.


The Hellhound had attacked and it was over. After a year of researching and praying and following up on every promise of a solution, Dean was dead. Sam wasn’t sure how long he had been sitting in the middle of a field, in the middle of nowhere South Dakota, clutching Dean’s lifeless body, but he didn't care. He wasn't ready to let go or move or begin building the pyre that would take Dean away forever. He wasn't sure he'd ever be ready.

“Is this how you felt, Dean, when I died?” He finally understood why Dean had done it. Sam was shocked to realize that if there were any chance that some crossroads demon would have made a deal with him, he’d have already been in the Impala.

Sam continued to sit there, shedding silent tears over Dean. “Bobby, I’ll wait for Bobby and Ellen.” The surrogate parents were already on their way and Sammy wouldn’t have to say goodbye alone.

In that dark and endless night known as hell, the crossroads demon waited. The hell hound approached holding the glowing package in its teeth. Eagerly, she stepped forward to claim Dean’s soul.

She could barely contain her glee. “We are going to have such fun together.” She reached out to touch the coveted soul. As her fingers closed on the orb, it darted out of her grasp and vanished.

She looked down at her empty hand, “That is not possible”

“I’m afraid it is.” The crossroads demon turned to face the glowing red demon who had deprived her of her spoils.

“What are you doing here, Lathos? I made a clean deal. Give me back what is rightfully mine.”

“Yes, it was a clean deal and you got to hold Dean’s soul for, oh, a full second. That was enough to fulfill the contract." Lathos always enjoyed teaching the lesser demons a lesson.

"What are you saying?"

"You know how I hate to disappoint you and yours,” sarcasm dripping from every word, “but I am afraid that Dean Winchester’s soul came with some fine print that you didn’t bother to read.”

The crossroads demon stared at him. No no no screamed her mind

Lathos sighed in an overly dramatic fashion. “That’s what happens when rookies try to play with the big boys.”

“You bastard. You knew and you let me make the deal anyway.” Arrgh, this is why Hell is Hell even for Demons. How was she going to explain the loss of Dean Winchester to her superiors?

The crossroads demon had only herself to blame. She should have realized that Dean Winchester’s soul, having been reaped once and returned as part of his Dad’s deal, was not a straight forward collection. Additional paperwork would have been required. “Stupid, so stupid.”

“Ok, I can fix this.” She offered to Lathos. “I’ll just get a sword, go back up there and cut his damn head off myself.”

“Sorry, doesn’t work that way. You know the rules. Dean’s an immortal now and off limits.” With one final smirk, he vanished.

She hated the red tape demons, friggin’ lawyers of the underworld. They were always ruining everybody’s fun.

I really like the idea and your writing. Only one problem, a typo, you need to fix because it ruins the punch of the last line: Dean starts to breathe, the verb, not breath, the noun.

I like this. I really, really like this. I loved the conversation between the Crossroads Demon and Lathos. Very, very well done. And that last sentgence was perfect in its simplicity. I enjoyed this.

Thanks. I was a huge lurker. I had been reading things like your Impala stories from the beginning but never logged my own LJ. Then this past May the big lock out occurred. Suddenly, I was being denied access to the stuff i had been reading so i opened a journal and began to participate. It seems so long ago but it was just May.

I am really grateful that LJ went screwy because I might never had gotten up the courage to participate.

Eee, gods, I remember that horror back in May, and man, I hated locking the Two Guys comm down, because I KNEW there were a lot of people reading it but lurking and not commenting. It's just one of those things, ya know? I often read a lot but don't comment, though I really try to.

So I'm glad that made you come out of your shell, open up your LJ, and get to the business of letting out your creativity! :D I think this series is so original! Pairing up SPN with HL never occurred to me, but I find myself wanting to write this crossover now... I just lack the HL show knowledge, as it's been awhile since I've seen the episodes. ;)

It has been great on LJ - I had written crappy mary sue stuff for years. I had never written a story without "ME" in it (half the reason i was afraid to try to write anything - could not kill poor mary)

*blushes* based on all the support I guess I succeeded No OFC in my fic that is the one rule I live by (demons don't count). :)

I try to stay away from OFC's if I can, because of the Mary Sue thing (and believe me, I have definitely written my share of Mary Sues in my time, lemme tell ya). Thing is, most female characters on TV today would fall into the Mary Sue category somehow. Chloe Sullivan? Totally a Mary Sue in a lot of ways. ;)

Thanks, though, for the encouragement. Once I get a feel for the show again, I have a feeling I'll be writing HL fic. *giggle*

While I love your Immortal!Dean series, re-reading this, I had a very sad thought. If Dean is immortal, then he wouldn't have really permanently died following the car crash. So John sacrificed his life and went to hell to save Dean, but, in essence, Dean didn't really need saving. So he died for nothing.

It is a bit sad and I really don't have the boys dwell on it but there is some of that unnecessary sacrifice going on Still John had no way of knowing and his deal did play a part in the crossroads deal being nullified. Highlander never explains how people become Immortal - or when the preimmortal state might kick in. Certainly it can't be from birth or there would be Immortal babies all over the place. So I'm using Supernatural interference as one of the ways immortality can happen. Does that make sense?
