The TV addict talks about many things and plays can you spot Badger
Leverage and Psych have had their season finales and the TV addict in me is very sad to have to wait until summer for these shows to return. Given that, I thought it might be time to do one of my summaries about the shows I’m watching and hear what y’all have to say about TV in general.
I will emphasize that if you aren’t watching Leverage you are missing one of the best shows on TV!
Opinions are under the cut in case anything constitutes Spoilers
Leverage: My love for this show knows no bounds and the season finale was incredibly satisfying. It was obvious from the way I ended that it could have the the series finale if the show wasn’t picked up. That goodness the people at TNT have brains (unlike FOX and ABC and CBS…)
So many good lines! Nate incredulous that Eliot is fixing his hair to go meet Maggie was hilarious. (Eliot better not be cutting his hair – the hair is so very pretty); Maggie’s sly dissing of Nate’s sexual prowess before revealing she knows Nate is watching followed by Eliot’s “I feel used”. But the best moment may be Parker sniffing Maggie and then patting her on the head calling her adorable. This episode balanced the funny with the angst of Nate finally telling Maggie why their son died. As for the con – one of their best. And Nate relying onBadger Sterling being a unmitigated bastard was a perfect exchange.
The look on Nate’s face as the episode ended let’s us know they aren’t really walking away. Summer can not come fast enough
Psych : This season finale may have been my favorite episode of the series to date. I like it when we see Shawn maturing by bits and pieces and having to balance his wit with his angst over his mom was just a great. Go Gus, stepping up and acting the fool to help Shawn. The bit with the airplane was hilarious especially when Shawn tells him he was on fire for using props. Their friendship is just so terrific. I was a little upset that they finally have Jules admitting she likes Shawn only to have it be the worst timing ever. OTOH they can’t get these two together just yet and Abigail is just the kind of roadblock needed to keep our OTP apart.
NCIS : Gibbs on horse back, camping out and firing a rifle – seriously what else do I have to say. I enjoy seeing men on horses way too much. On the down side: they are making Tony so very annoying. I haven’t checked but there must be one writer who goes to town with the movie references and it becomes very distracting – Though I have to admit I did enjoy the Mongo/beans shout out. The whole rich uncle thing was just annoying. I did enjoying knowing that Abby does help out other NCIS agents - i often wondered if whe was assigned exclusively to Gibbs. OTOH - she can't possibly be the only forensic tech for all of NCIS - can she?
And a familiar face to the Scifi crowd,Delenn, Danielle Mira Furlan - Dina - plays the suspicious woman with a gun, whose name starts with “d” – she’s very good at that. NCIS is still the best procedural on TV, IMHO.
Chuck : The campy spy antics are still sharp. It is amazing to me how they are able to use everyone in this cast and give them something significant to do in most episodes. Jeff and Lester crack me up. Awesome and Ellie are just the cutest couple. I thought it was great that instead of being angry Morgan actually understands why Chuck humiliated him – this character is growing up and becoming worthy of Anna
I thought it was great the way they showed that Sarah really has no concept of friendship or what Morgan means to Chuck.Jayne Casey is awesome as always – really that man is hilarious.
Dollhouse : Sorry I don’t like this show. Where is the Whedon wit and snarky attitude? It doesn’t feel like a Joss show. But even more upsetting then that and the thing that infuriates me is that Eliza is playing a prostitute. Dress it up anyway you want, these “dolls” are being sold as sex slaves. They have no choice and they have to sleep with whom ever asks. I find this concept completely squicky. I doubt I will be watching any more – even the temptation of half nakedHelo Tahmoh Penikett is not worth it But hey isn’t that Badger Mark Sheppard playing an FBI agent.
Supernatural has been renewed for a 5th season so of course this makes me do the happy dance. I am only concerned with how much darker this show can get. It’s not like I expect Dean to settle down with Chloe and have 2.5 kids in the suburbs (ok maybe I do ) but seriously would a happy ending even be possible. Dean’s already said he expects it to end bloody and I fear Kripke agrees. Also, I am very worried about Bobby. There is supposed to be a major character death at the end of the season – since we know it isn’t Dean and Sam (again) – it has to be Bobby. I just hope I’m wrong because Bobby is made of awesome and the show wouldn’t be the same without him.
Smallville I know I said I was done before but this time I mean it – I haven’t watched a full episode since Lana came back. (Ok I admit I did watch 'Legion' and it was actually a good episode - if you ignore all the Lana worship) Seriously, why is it this show can get away with creating the ultimate Mary Sue and the producers don’t notice. Lana is a martial arts expert, a better hacker than Chloe, historically significant to the Legion and now she’s got all of Clark’s powers plus a kryptonite infection – give me a break next thing you know she’ll be running the JLA while curing world hunger. And don't get me started on Chloe and Jimmy. I still rant about Samllville but I no longer watch.
Heroes I don’t even know where to begin. This show has flopped around so much I’m not even sure which characters are still in the cast. And that ending on Monday – Parkman might blow up DC. *rolls eyes*. Let’s see they started the series with the idea that Peter might blow up NY and the show has been downhill since. So they think repeating this story line is a good idea - *smacks them*
Big Bang Theory – easily the best comedy on TV. Christine Baranski as Leonard’s Mom was just terrific. I laugh from beginning to end and realize just how much of a geek I am.
Burn Notice – Hey wasn’t that Badger in the episode two weeks ago trying to rob the bank– Mark Sheppard may be the hardest working man in television right now. Love this show but is it just me or does Fiona need to gain about 20 pounds. She’s starting to look like a Chihuahua when she pulls her hair back. Sam Axe is made of awesome as always
Lost - Yep I am, but I keep watching.
Battlestar Galactica This show leaves me stunned every week. Some of the twists make no sense for weeks and then suddenly the answers are reveled. Still if it wasn’t the end of the series I might have given up on it. It is so dark and everyone is so unhappy – sometimes it just beats me down. But hey wasn’t that Badger on an episode a few weeks back playing a lawyer?
Lie To Me I am enjoying this show. It is very similar to The Mentalist which I could not get into to. I know Simon Baker is adorable but it just wasn’t enough. Tim Roth is just fun to watch and the deciphering of the facial expression is very entertaining. I’m not sure if it will continue to entertain but I’m watching for now.
That’s the round up for today. Still upset about Stargate: Atlantis being canceled especially with that lame finale. Please let me know what you are watching and you thoughts about any show that interests you.
Oh and FYI – Badger was the character Mark Sheppard played in two episodes of Firefly (damn you Fox!!!) and that’s who I still think of every time I see him.
I will emphasize that if you aren’t watching Leverage you are missing one of the best shows on TV!

And they've been doing some wonky things with the team dynmaics on NCIS this season, i love the show, but it seems to me that Ziva and McGee have moved from teasing to almost being downright cruel to Tony, and the writer's have shifted Tony back to the earlier seasons Tony, not the more mature one we were starting to see. That being said, loved, loved, loved last weeks ep where they let Tony be in charge, mature, and Gibbs let him know that he was proud of him. And Abby's Trainee sticker for him. But oh yeah, this week, Gibbs on a horse. *le sigh* There is something about a man on a horse... Might be why I like westerns. ;)

I think there is one writer who uses 'Tony season 2' canon when ever he writes an episode. There have been a few episodes this season where the movie references are just out of control - it has to be the same writer. Because you are right last week Tony was Awesome and mature and conflicted but this week I just wanted to smack him.
Gibbs on horseback...yep i went there

Leverage is a very good show! I started to watch it for Christian Kane but I love it! Really love it! I love Nate, Parker.. I love the stories.. Great show!
About Supernatural I think the same, I'm worried for Bobby too but I hope to be wrong :(

Burn Notice - i agree about Fi and Sam... and yes, i saw the bank robber and said "Is that Badger?"
Supernatural - the best ending someone in my LJ suggested was Dean and Sam finish their job of the episode, and drive off into the sunset in the impala, Hell's Bells blaring, off to the next job. however, i think Eric's mind is more twisted than that, and we're in for a classic Greek tragedy. and yaaay for S5!!! (you know this means S4 will be an evil cliffhanger, yeah?)

It seems his two episode stint as Badge it the most popular character mark ever played.
Yep the cliffhanger for SPN S4 is a sure thing. DAMN!!!

Leverage, Psych and Dollhouse haven't made it here yet. Supernatural and Burn notice are behind and I haven't seen Smallville in years!!!! :( So I guess I'm in for more downloading...
Tim Roth was always one of my favourites so I started watching Lie to me and am enjoying it. Can you imagine having a relationship with any of the main characters though? They'd get your every thought!
Mark Sheppard will always be Badger to me too!

You're lucky you've avoided smallville - that show has jumped the shark so many time the shark is tired.
Yep - Badger rules the bastard set - I couldn't believe he showed up on 4 shows I watch in two weeks - it was hilarious.
Tim Roth is great but you're right - i would never never want a relationship with anyone on his crew

I couldn't agree more about the awesomeness of Psych and Burn Notice. Fiona is amazing, but she's so very tiny that I agree she could gain about 20 pounds and not look that much different, just a bit less gaunt.
I'm so far behind on BSG... *woes* Same for SPN... *more woes*
And I just bought season one of Big Bang Theory. :)
I'll update with thoughts on that, too!

Also for giggles Pause on the producers end card. Chuck Lorre uses it for sill rants and wry observations. but you can't read it fast enough if you don't pause it. it changes every episode.
I hope you enjoy Leverage - it really is a good mix of funny and action

I like Leverage, although I have eps on the DVR I still need to watch---I got caught up on some of it, but not all.
NCIS is something I've recently gotten into and I've been watching it in no particular order and don't stress about it.
Heroes: I'm primarily in it for Sylar, at this point. With the exception of him and Angela Petrelli, most of the cast are getting on my nerves.
My other shows...CSI: Miami is having a so-so season I miss Khandi Alexander, don't buy the Delko/Calleigh romance they're trying to push, and really wish they'd bring back Kyle Harmon.
Criminal Minds, on the other hand...I still love this one, although their continuity sucks big donkey dicks. One ep, Hotch is having hearing difficulties, the next, everything is back to normal, and for the love of god, people, PLEASE decide on a style for Reid's hair and stick to it. I, for one, vote for the brush-back. It makes him look more mature, which is overdue. And how about another ep with Michael Ironside as his NA sponsor?
(Sorry, got carried away....)

NCIS doesn't need a particular order - except to know that Ziva didn't join until the third season - that's actually when I started watching so i never had much Kate love.
I stopped watching CSI Miami after they killed Speed and replaced him with "not-Greg" (we called him that becasue he looks like Greg from regular CSI). I do love Calliegh.
I admit I have never watched criminal Minds but that hair issues sounds like what they did to Nicky for a full season on CSI:Vegas - every episode was a fun hair surprise.
never apologize for talking TV with an addict - it's my fix LOL

This is how the show works. One of the things that people have noted about CM is that most of the main characters' personal drama is carried out in the background. Very rarely does it spill over into the main storyline, and we only ever get glimpses of their personal life outside of work. We see the start of Reid's drug addiction, and then one more glimpse before it's not mentioned again until months later and we find out he's kicked the habit and going to NA.
It's how they were able to write in JJ's pregnancy so easily, and not have the Will/JJ storyline seem tacked on - because we only get small glimpses into their lives outside of work, so everything seems to come out of nowhere.
Their personal drama is not what drives the show, and it's not needed to distinguish the characters from each other or to gain our interest in them - the actors and writers manage that all on their own.
But I do agree with Reid's hair. And glasses. (I noticed he had extra dorky glasses in a couple eps last season.) Pick a style, please. Or have Garcia pick one for him! :)

Burn Notice: Still an amazing show, though I'm going to miss it when the season's done. Its what's been keeping television bearable for me, over the rest of the crap that's on. Haven't noticed the Fi-is-a-skeleton thing, but then I didn't notice it on Buffy, either, until it was pointed out. I have noticed her being more frail, though.
Haven't yet watched last night's NCIS, and SV was a lost cause years ago (though I have been picking up a few episodes on Surf the Channel that involve the Green Arrow).
Dollhouse: I'm giving this a few more eps before dumping it for good. The prostitution thing is only one of the reasons watching this show makes me uncomfortable. The other is the whole humiliation/embarrassment angle, where everyone's in on the joke except Echo. These two things are guaranteed to make me mute or change the channel, and the number of times I've had to do that in the first 2 eps is unacceptable. (
And for the record, I don't see Mark Sheppard and go 'hey, that's Badger'. I associate actors with the first show I noticed them in, so when I first saw Badger on Firefly, I was all 'hey, that's the guy that likes to blow stuff up from that mercenary show I can't remember the name of!'
(Side note: that show was also the first time I'd seen the actress who eventually played Lady Heather.)
no subject
What show was that you first saw Mark Sheppard on? You're right about the first time thing - I first noticed him on FF and so that's why he's Badger to me and Mira Furlan is Delenn, Adam Baldwin is Jayne; Tahmoh Penikett is Helo - though in that case it's partly becasue I can not pronounce Tahmoh Penikett. LOL

Well, with Supernatural I am with you and hoping it's not Bobby. I love SPN but this season, the brotherly connection which I loved the most about the show seems to be falling apart and if Bobby dies it won't be the same for me.
Only seen a few episodes of Leverage but I am hooked.
And I also am adoring Psych which my siblings turned me onto. 8D
take care

I agree the divisiveness between Sam and Dean is hurting the show - their "Us against the world" bond is what made the show great.

Heroes is also a lost cause. I'm done for the season. Might turn it on next year, but that's a huge might. I'm reading the spoilers over the summer months like whoa, that's for damn skippy.
Supernatural, I have a lot of problems with, it's more than the Obi-Wan/Anakin rivalry they have going with Dean and Sam. Julie Seige, one of the writers, gave an interview where she used the Obi/Anakin analogy to illustrate the shift in the dynamic. Kripke is purposely going for a massive breakdown between the Winchesters by season's end. It's only going to get worse before it gets better. Myself, I hate the angel garbage. Never liked it. Never thought in a million years he'd go there, he even said he wouldn't, but, well, they wrote themselves into a corner and admitted they couldn't think of an alternative to Divine Intervention. You had a YEAR, people. A. YEAR.

I too am upset by the angels and find it surprising that was their solution. i long for the happy go lucky days of seaon 1 and 2. the brotherly bind. If that disappears, then dud, it's not the show i love any more. Very worried that Kripke is jumping several sharks and he won't be able to jump back

Burn Notice - It gets even worse about the actress playing Fiona... She has 3 kids! She's too darn skinny!
Loved both episodes.

Wow how does a person that size stand up when they are carrying 1/3 their body weight in baby *snicker*

But NCIS and Psych?
DUDE.... NCIS has been fairly awesome this season, like woah. Abby COULD be the only forensic scientist for that building of NCIS, or at least that local location. It seems to me as if there is only that floor of agents and every other floor is another department. So... it's nto like she'd be SUPER overloaded? I havent' seen the episode of which you speak, but it sounds enjoyable. I heart McGee this season - manning up against Tony and in general!! Also, Ziva and TOny = totally sekrit lovers, I'm telling you - but I would not have enjoyed old DiNozzo appearing. He should be moping over Jeanne a little ('cause he REALLY loved her), not... bein' mysoginistic and a jackass.
Psych, like I've said before... I was a little disappointed in the episode because the commercial for it made the episode look more exciting than it was. There was some of the old Shawn, not wanting to listen to his parents and all, and he didn't really do much mojoy stuff, it was him playing by ear really. But liked Lassiter going "It's for me, Cheif" at EVERY opportunity imaginable! Lassie, I heart you hardcore buddy!
no subject
I did like how Lassie really wanted to be the one to go up against the killer. I think Psych is getting better all the time.

*sigh* I was doing so well with the not rotting my brains watching tv too, lol, oh well.
I am going to attempt to watch: Leverage, Psych, Dollhouse (so I can judge for myself), Sp and SV (catch up), Burn Notice, and Lie To Me.

I can't recommend catching up on SV unless you love watching shows jump the shark.
If you only have time for one show (after SPN of course) i'd go with Leverage. My DVR is picking up the reruns now and I'm watching them all over again - they are that entertaining
